A copy of a letter from the
Home Office, showing how the powers
thus conferred are exercised in this
country, is enclosed for your guidance.
I would invite particular attention to
the second paragraph of this letter
where it is stated that the fact that
the deportation of an alien "might put
him in the hands of his Government, with
the result that he might be punished for
an offence which might be regarded as
political would not be decisive against
a deportation order being made, though
it would be one of the considerations
to be taken into account". I must
